cp nagpurNagpur: Nagpur’s burgeoning crime rate which earned the city the dubious tag of ‘crime capital’ has otherwise witnessed a significant fall in the first half of 2016, says a crime chart released by Commissioner of Police (Nagpur City) S P Yadav. The reduction of crime rate is probably due to the enhancement of policing, better detection, better convictions and use of stringent laws like MCOCA to curb crime menace.

Throwing light on the development Commissioner of Police (Nagpur City) S P Yadav said that crime has been contained to considerable extent and there has been a fall of 15% (approximately) under all the major heads of crime till end of April 2016. He said that this was witnessed even before the induction of three rural police stations in Nagpur Commissionerate. The three police stations including Kamptee Police Station, Old Kamptee Police Station and Hingana Police Station were inducted into Nagpur City Commissionerate on May 14, 2016. The reduction of crime rate is probably due to the enhancement of policing, better detection, better convictions and use of stringent laws like MCOCA to curb crime menace.

These police stations have registered a huge increase in crime. While Hingna police station registered 35% more crimes, Kamptee and Old Kamptee Police Stations witnessed, 25% and 16% increase in crime rate during the last four months only of the current year.

However, expressing his satisfaction Commissioner of Police (Nagpur City) S P Yadav feels that inspite of the merger of three police stations with a tremendous increased crime, the overall crime rate in Nagpur City till end of June has shown a noticeable decrease under all major heads.

CP Yadav has also pointed out that the crime rate has registered a decrease and the good policing improved further in the month of June as compared to May 2016. There is an overall decrease of 9% in one single month.
The detection of cases too has registered an increase. The percentage of detection of cases has gone up from 57% to 60% till the end of June 2016.
