Nagpur: Three persons including a 13-year-old boy were killed in a ghastly accident while three others were seriously injured when a rashly driven car dashed into the victims’ motorcycles. The accident, police informed, took place on Wednesday evening under the jurisdiction of Gittikhadan police station.
The deceased were Ghanu Thakre (40), Indrakala Thakre (35) and Khileshwar Ghanu Thakre (13) while the injured persons have been identified as Khilendra Patle (26), Ritu Thakre, and Savita Chowdhary.
The preliminary investigations revealed that Khilendra Patle was riding triplet with Ritu and Savita on his Pulsar motorcycle (MH 31 W 4055) while Ghanu was riding another motorcycle Hero Honda Splendor with Indrakala and Khileshwar. The victims were heading towards home from Nara to Dabha Ring Road at around 7 pm. A Renold Duster car (MH 31 EK 6000) coming from the opposite direction at the Centre Point School turning point dashed into the two motorcycle killing Ghanu, Indrakala and Khileshwar on the spot while seriously injuring Ritu, Savita and Khilendra.
The ‘killer’ driver sped away from the spot fearing public wrath while some commuters who witnessed the accident immediately informed Gittikhadan police station about the incidence. Cops swung into action and rushed to the accident spot. They performed panchanama and sent the injured for treatment to Suretech Hospital while the deceased’s bodies were sent to Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Hospital for post mortem.
On the basis of the statement given by Khilendra Patle, Gittikhadan police have booked the driver after registering an offence under Sections 279, 304 (a), 337, 338 read with sub sections 134, 177 of the Motor Vehicle Act. Cops have launched a manhunt for the killer driver.
