Nagpur: A chaotic scene unfolded in the Mahal area near Natraj Talkies on Friday night when a Mahindra Logan car, driven recklessly by intoxicated individuals, plowed through a crowded market. The incident resulted in multiple injuries, with a woman, her three-month-old child, and a man sustaining serious injuries.
The occupants of the car, who were found to be under the influence of alcohol and marijuana, have been apprehended by the police. Beer bottles and marijuana were discovered in the vehicle.
This accident has brought back memories of a recent tragic incident in Pune, where two youngsters were killed by a Porsche driven by a drunk teenager. According to police reports, the car involved in the Mahal accident was speeding from the Aaychit Mandir area when it lost control near Natraj Talkies, hitting several pedestrians before accelerating in an attempt to flee, causing further collisions.
Local residents stated that the driver was apprehended by the public, while two others attempted to escape but were eventually caught and handed over to the police. The enraged crowd also damaged the car’s windshield and confronted the occupants.
Officers from Kotwali Police Station quickly arrived at the scene and took the intoxicated individuals into custody. The accused have been identified as Sunny Chavan, Anshul Dhale, and another friend, all residents of the Imambada area.
Injured have been hospitalized. The woman suffered a fractured leg, and the three-month-old child is under medical observation. The accused were sent for a medical examination later that night.
