BMW has launched its much-awaited second-generation BMW X4 in India. The X4 is perceived as a baby X6, with the former car’s silhouette being the same as the latter, but in a shrunken form. With a starting price at 60.60 Lakh ex-showroom, this is a pretty sweet deal. The all-new BMW X4 for 2019 will also come equipped with M-Sport X-trim kit.

This car is being manufactured locally in Chennai plant which has helped BMW keep the cost low due to the localization of parts. It will help the X4 compete with the likes of Range Rover Evoque, Audi Q3, Jaguar F-Pace & Volvo XC60. Driving duties are done by a variety of engine options; a 2.0-litre diesel,a2.0-litre petrol, or a 3.0-litre diesel.

The xDrive20d comes with a 2-litre 4-cylinder diesel with 190-HP& 400-NM of torque & xDrive30i is the petrol version & uses 2-litre 4-cylinder turbo-petrol good for 252-HP& 350-NM of torque. xDrive30d is pulled by a 3-liter six-cylinder turbocharged diesel rated at 265-hp & 620nm of torque. All variants get a ZF-8-speed auto and BMW’s all-wheel drive, aka xDrive is engaged across variants.

Christopher Früh, who worked on the dynamics of the new X4, was quoted saying, “For the sake of looks and stance, we have widened the rear track of the car which resulted into the understeering a little.” He then added, “Our customers didn’t want the car to be too quick as this will make handling of the car aggressive and it will make them nervous at high speeds”. In simple words, handling of this car is simply numb.

The most prominent features of the Beemer include 10.25-inch infotainment screen with 16-speaker Harman-Kardon sound system, head-up display, wireless Apple CarPlay, BMW display key, wireless charging, panoramic sunroof & powered tail-gate. Additionally, adaptive LED headlamps, mood lights, triple-zone climate control are some more luxury add-ons are also included.

The X4 comes loaded with tech, such as BMW display key which helpsyou maintain contact with the car 24×7. BMW gesture control is another tech which is there to help you drive touch-free. This system is programmed with pre-defined hand movements to control a number of functions which is a part of the thought-out concept.BMW CLAR (cluster architecture) has been used in this car, which was previously used last in X3

The frontface has an upright stancebut gets aggressive looking front bumpers. Sloping roof is integrated with the boot perfectly and give it the look of mini-X6. While the X4 has the identical wheelbase as the X3, it is 44mm longer, 27mm wider and 55mm lower than the X3.Coupe-SUV is always being criticized for not being practical enough as compared to the mainstream SUV’s, but getting noticed is part of their job and the new X4 sure does that.

The M-Sport X-design package consists of BMW’s M-Sport body kit including side skirts, and a rear diffuser, large 19-inch alloy wheels, dual exhaust, and a roof-mounted spoiler to add to its sportier styling.

BMW India recorded a major sales boost in India during 2018, and with their aggressive new launches, things are sure to be heated up pretty soon. BMW has planned 12 new launches this year and the X4 is one of them. Plans for the new 3-series, 8-series coupe & the all-new Z4 roadster are underway.
