Thane Police arrests India’s first female private detective

Thane: India’s first female private detective Rajani Pandit was today arrested by Thane Crime Branch in a case pertaining to procurement of Call Detail Records (CDR) illegally.

Pandit, who has a Wikipedia page, has written two books “Faces” and “Mayajal”. She has been profiled by several media houses for her work as a detective in the past.

She has won many awards and recognitions of which one is the Hirkani Award by Doordarshan Maharashtra.

Pandit is the daughter of Police Inspector Shantaram Pandit, who is known to be a part of the team that probed the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi.

The woman claims to have solved over 7,500 cases. Pandit’s arrest comes after Thane Crime Branch arrested other four private detectives who procured and sold CDRs. Police sources said that Pandit had sought CDRs from other arrested accused on several occasions.

Apart from two books, a documentary named Lady James Bond was also made on her.
