
Nagpur: Acting on a tip-off, the Tehsil police raided an illegal casino gambling den operating near the Timki-Panchpaoli railway crossing late on Thursday night and arrested three persons who were found running gambling activities using casino machines.
According to police, around 11.20 pm on February 6, a patrolling team received specific information that gambling was being conducted on the upper floor of a building located in a lane beside Vijay Medicos, near the railway gate under Panchpaoli police station limits. Based on the input, police conducted a raid in the presence of panch witnesses.
During the raid, the accused were caught red-handed while placing bets and facilitating gambling through casino machines such as Front Line, Hello Win, Master, Express Bonus, KZ Wheel, Topper and Mint. The arrested accused have been identified as Gaurav Rajesh Nanhe (23), a resident of Old Mangalwari, Lakadganj; Akshay Devidas Fulzhele (26), a resident of Naik Talav, Bangladesh area, Pachpaoli; and Rohit Shrikant Bhongade (23), a resident of Samrat Ashok Chowk, Ambedkar Nagar, Wadi.
Police seized cash amounting to Rs 4,000, 17 casino machines, monitors, printers, scanners, CPUs, keyboards, three mobile phones and other materials, collectively valued at Rs 4,83,850.
During interrogation, the arrested accused revealed that the gambling operation was being run with the help of another accused, Ejaz Sheikh (32), a resident of Jaripatka, who is currently absconding.
A case has been registered at Tehsil Police Station under Sections 4 and 5 of the Maharashtra Prevention of Gambling Act. Further investigation is underway, and efforts are on to trace and arrest the wanted accused.
