Task fraud: Man loses Rs 9.70 lakh to cyber crooks in Nagpur

Nagpur: One more Nagpurian lost Rs 9.70 lakh to cyber fraudsters after falling victim to enticing promises of high returns on investment.

A resident of Plot No 52, Omkar Nagar, Ajni, Chetan Ashok Sorte (32) received a call on his mobile phone from an unknown person, who claimed to represent a private company and offered him a ‘work from home’ job. Attracted by the high pay offered by the caller and other persons, Sorte accepted the offer and started the online work for them. After gaining his trust, the fraudsters coaxed him into investing money by promising high returns. From time to time, Sorte deposited Rs 9.70 lakh in the bank account numbers given by them.

As he did not get any returns, Sorte realised that he was scammed and approached the police. Following Sorte’s complaint, Cyber Police registered a case under Sections 420, 465, 467, 468, 471, 34 of the Indian Penal Code, read with Section 66(d) of the Information Technology Act and initiated an investigation.
