Congress leader of Parliament Mallikarjun Kharge, said to have been handpicked by Sonia for the post, proved the mettle he is made of when speaking in Parliament on Tuesday. While discussing the motion of thanks to the President’s address he turned the heat on the house by declaring –
” Untouchability is a reality in India even now”. This predictably got almost all BJP benchers on their feet in protest. Not deterred in the least Kharge pointed to them and said ” you may have picked up the broom, but your mindsets need to be cleansed of the bias of caste and religion”. This got the BJP members even more riled. They wanted Kharge to withdraw his allegations and apologise. Instead he threw them a googly by asking –
“Is it not true that several people will not drink the tea I make?”
He ended by saying matter of factly – “I won’t go away so easily”.
