Mishra entangled in education fees scam

Nagpur: Sunil Mishra who is known to highlight all the scams and issues of Rashtrasanth Tukdoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU) got himself entangled in a fees scam on January 20, 2015.

Sources alleged that Sunil Mishra has misappropriated scholarship fees amounting to the tune of Rs 59 lakhs from the students of Central India Institute of Mass Communications during the academic period of 2013-14. The RTMNU and Social Welfare Department has directed Central India Institute of Mass Communications to return the excess amount charged from the students back to the students.

The Assistant Commissioner of Social Welfare Wankhede had written to Chairman and Managing Director of Central India Institute of Mass Communications Sunil Mishra about his charging excess fees and had taken out a notice to this effect on January 5, 2015.

The Social Welfare Department had directed Sunil Mishra through a notice to return the amount of Rs 5926000/- (Fifty nine lakhs twenty six thousand) received as scholarship fees for students of backward classes during the academic session of 2013-14 by January 20, 2015.

The Intellectual Management Council of Nagpur University had determined the chargeable education fees for courses like Master of Fashion Design, Master of Textile Science, Bachelor of Khadi Production and Textiles, Bachelor of Jewellery Design, Bachelor of Fashion Business Management, Bachelor of Fashion Design, Bachelor of Textile Science, Bachelor of Journalism etc. An official Notification to this effect was taken out on May 31, 2013. However, this hike in fees was not enforced by the varsity. This hike in the fees does not become officially valid till the varsity approves the hike in the fees.

Sources alleged that Sunil Mishra had very cleverly made an official letter showing the notification with the hiked fees and got the signature of the Registrar Dr Ashok Gomase. He then enforced the hiked fees in his Institute too. To add to that he submitted the same letter to the Social Welfare Department and applied for the hiked scholarship fees of the students of backward class. He received the hiked scholarship amount from the Social Welfare Department too.

The Education Fees Committee of Rashtrasant Tukdoji Maharaj Nagpur University under the chairmanship of Retired Judge of Nagpur Bench of Bombay High Court Kishore Rohi uncovered this scam.

Registrar of RTMNU of Dr Ashok Gomase had directed Sunil Mishra to present himself before the Education Fees Committee on August 26, 2014, through a letter on December 9, 2014. When Sunil Mishra was not present on August 26, 2014, he was again asked to be present before the committee on September 15, 2014. However, Sunil Mishra chose to remain absent on both the occasions. Many Academicians had alleged that many course are been run in Sunil Mishra’s Central India Institute of Mass Communications.
