Datta-MegheNagpur News: Senior Congress leader and former MP Datta Meghe on Monday quit party. In a letter sent to MPCC President Manikrao Thakre, Meghe informed him that he is resigning from all posts and membership of Congress. Sulking for the past few months, Datta Meghe and his son Sagar, who contested the Lok Sabha election from Wardha constiyuency, albeit unsuccessfully, are joining BJP. The move comes at the behest of Union Road Transport, Highways and Shipping Minister Nitin Gadkari. An announcement in this respect is likely to be made soon. In fact, Meghe was to join BJP on Monday itself but due to Gadkari’s busy schedule in Delhi, the programme has been deferred for a short while.

It may be recalled, Nagpur Today had flashed a report a few days ago titled: “Datta Meghe to join BJP, sons to get tickets for Assembly elections” wherein it was reported that the former Congress MP Datta Meghe has decided to enter BJP fold after his son Sagar’s humiliating defeat in the recently held Lok Sabha poll from Wardha constituency. His close relations with Nitin Gadkari played a crucial role in making Datta Meghe’s mind to join the saffron party.

According to sources, Meghe has made up his mind to push his sons Sameer and Sagar into Assembly poll fray on BJP ticket from two seats of Nagpur. He is reportedly holding talks with BJP leadership in this connection.

A top figure in education field, Datta Meghe has been sulking in Congress for the past few months over systematic sidelining in party affairs by MPCC President Manikrao Thakre. Meghe had taken the matter to Maharashtra In Charge Mohan Prakash, Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan and other senior leaders but was disappointed time and again as nothing was done to ameliorate his feelings despite assuring words. Finally, Meghe thought is enough is enough and has now decided to join BJP.
