Stray dog terror grips city, over 45000 victims in four years, 84 deaths

Nagpur: The piece is dedicated to the Great Nagpur Municipal Corporation. For failure of this civic body on a scary front, the citizens took a severe beating. For, the menace of stray dogs on streets or for that matter any corner of this sprawling city, is getting stronger and stronger day out and day in.

Thousands were bitten and mauled by stray dogs in the past four years as the civil authorities failed to curb the canine menace. To be precise, over 45,000 persons of varying ages fell victims to the stray terror. And the bite proved fatal for 84 of them.

The deadly facts and figures got revealed through an RTI query posed by an activist Abhay Kolarkar. The RTI activist sought information from Nagpur Municipal Corporation regarding incidents of dog bites and the fatalities. The reply bared the stunning facts and figures.

According to the reply, from April 2011 to September 2015, a staggering 45,175 persons were bitten by species of stray dogs and 84 of them were gripped by rabies and ultimately died. From April 2015 the canine menace caused a sort of havoc with 5063 persons falling victims in the period of past five months.

Nine of them lost their lives. The break-up of stray terror is as follows:
