State Govt starts ‘Jagao Ehsaas’ project to ensure gender equality in colleges

To make the gender equality a must follow exercise at college level, Maharashtra government has kicked off an innovative campaign name ‘Jagao Ehsaas’ across various cities of the state including Nagpur.

The state’s higher education department made the announcement of this scheme. Under ‘Jagao Ehsaas’ project, every college has to send five entries to the selection committee. The entries would include suggestions to improvise gender equality and to ward off insecurity among the girl students. In addition to it, the colleges would also be required to inform the steps it has initiated to implement these suggestions.

The project aims at developing a collective environment that promotes equality among male and female students, culture and secured society. The department felt that the initiation at higher education level would be the best way to seek the change in the concerned area.

The scheme will be executed in the form of competition which would reward cash prizes of Rs 1 lakh and Rs 50,000 at district level and Rs 2 lakh and Rs 1 lakh at college level. The prize money at college level has been pegged at Rs 5 lakh and Rs 3 lakh.
