Nagpur: In a move aimed at easing the administrative burden on the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC), the Maharashtra Government has posted two officers in the rank of Deputy Commissioner to the civic body.
The officers — Meghna Wasankar, currently serving with the Amravati Municipal Corporation, and Mangesh Khawle, presently with the Chandrapur Municipal Corporation — have been directed to join NMC immediately. Both officers were promoted from the cadre of Chief Officers/Assistant Commissioners (Group A).
The decision comes as NMC continues to grapple with an acute shortage of senior administrative officers. Several Deputy Commissioner and Assistant Commissioner posts have been lying vacant for months, forcing the civic administration to entrust additional responsibilities to existing officers.
According to officials, frequent transfers and unfilled positions have left many departments under pressure, with some officers handling dual or even triple charges. The latest appointments are expected to provide much-needed relief and streamline operations across key departments of the corporation.
NMC sources expressed hope that the arrival of the new officers would help restore administrative balance and improve the implementation of ongoing civic projects and citizen services.
