Nagpur: Former India pace bowler Javagal Srinath will be the chief guest for the annual award function which will be jointly organized by Sports Journalists’ Association of Nagpur (SJAN) and Raisoni Group.
The function will be held on Thursday, August 27 at Scientific Society Hall, Aath Rasta Square, at 10 am.
Srinath, has taken 236 wickets in 67 Tests. While in one-day internationals, he has 315 wickets in 229 matches. He is also a recipient of Arjuna Award. Post his retirement he has been working with ICC as match referee.
He was the ICC match referee in the recently concluded One-Day series between Sri Lanka and Pakistan.
So far he has officiated as match referee in 33 Test matches, 166 One-day Internationals and 49 T20 International matches.
SJAN hopes that his presence and words will inspire not only the awardees but also other sportspersons of the city to excel in their respective fields.
SJAN and Raisoni group confers total seven awards including—senior and junior sportspersons in men’s and women’s categories, sports organiser, best school and college—every year. SJAN secretary, Kishor Bagde informed that the list of awardees will be announced on a later date.
Last year, Vidarbha Ranji star Faiz Fazal, athlete Jyoti Chavan, badminton player Rohan Gurbani, basketball player Mugdha Amraotkar and ex-hockey player and organiser Manish Gaur were honoured with the SJAN-Raisoni Awards. Nehru Vidyalaya, Hingna, and SK Porwal College were honoured for their contributions to the field of sports.
Baidyanath Ayurved, Mahatma Gandhi High School, Centre Point School, Bank of Maharashtra and Deaven Dasture family are the co-sponsors of the event.
