A recklessly driven truck knocked a youth dead on Tuesday while another youth was injured in the freak accident. The fateful accident took place under Kalamna police station.
Police sources said Tushar Dhaniram Pardheshi (21) and his cousin Akash Hrushi Suryawanshi (23) were dragging the motorcycle Discover bike (MH 31 494) as it ran out of petrol on Tuesday at 9.15 pm. As they walked towards the petrol pump near Chikhli Square, a rashly driven truck sped from rear and hit the youths. Tushar sustained serious injuries while Akash died on the spot. Feared over arrest and public wrath, the truck driver fled away from the spot.
Passersby noticed the youths and rushed in to help them. Someone informed Kalamna police who reached the spot immediately and sent Tushar for treatment at Government Medical College and Hospital. The body of Akash, a resident of Vinoba Bhave Nagar, was sent for post mortem.
Cops have registered an offence under Sections 279, 338, 304 (a) read with sub sections 134 and 177 of Motor Vehicle Act.
