Manmohan Singh meets Sonia Gandhi and other Congress leaders who walked to his house in a show of support
NewDelhi/Nagpur: Looking very much in command and full of righteous indignation, Sonia Gandhi, President of Congress who normally shuns the limelight and the media made a statement before the media in Delhi today standing by former PM Singh a 100%. She and some senior Congress leaders visited Manmohan Singh at his residence to express solidarity with him a day after the CBI special court named him as “accused number 6 ” in the Coalgate scam. She made the statement after the visit.
“He is our former prime minister and is known not only in our country but also throughout the world as being a person of integrity and probity,” Mrs. Gandhi said as she led a group of senior party leaders to Mr. Singh’s home in New Delhi Thursday morning, a day after a court summoned the former Congress premier in the case.
“We are here to show our unstinting support, our solidarity,” Mrs. Gandhi said. “The Congress party are fully behind him, we shall fight this legally and with all our means.”
For Singh’s defense a team of top lawyers has been roped in and as former Minister Chidambaram said ” we will prove his innocence beyond all doubt and the CBI court itself will be forced to drop the case against him”.
The entire rank and file of Congress is very riled at BJP not sparing even Singh who has been a national icon of probity in public life.
