Nagpur: Sonegaon police on Thursday chased a car and seized a stock of petrol being transported for sell by the driver without license. A raid at the residence of the driver resulted in seizer of more stock of petrol stocked illegally. The petrol stock and the car collectively worth Rs 3.33 lakh have been seized.
Sonegaon police received a tip off that a person named Gajanan Mahadeo Mehre (53), resident of Plot No. 27, Chikhle Layout, Chinchbhuvan, Khapri, was transporting a stock of petrol in his Alto car (MH-31/EU 3255) illegally. Acting on the information, a team of cops laid a trap near Khapri Police Post around 12.45 pm on Thursday.
After a shortwhile, the cops noticed the a white-coloured Alto car coming from Wardha direction. When the police signaled the driver to stop the car, he raced it. The cops also trailed the car and later apprehended the driver. He divulged his name as Gajanan Mahadeo Mehre. The frisking of car led to recovery of 35 litres of petrol in a can. Subsequently, cops raided the residence of the accused and found petrol stocked in drums and cans without license. A total stock of 460 liters of petrol worth Rs 37,190 along with the Alto car collectively worth Rs 3.33 lakh was seized.
The task was carried out by APIs Yele, Pravin Patil, PSI Shejav, constables Sanjay Gupta, Rajesh Yadav, Nitin Javalekar, Kishore Satavkar, Subhash Chauhan, Manish Kadve, Rajesh Dhakte under the guidance of DCP Deepali Masirkar, ACP Ashvini Patil and Senior PI Ashok Bagul.
