The 1020 bedded multisuper speciality Shalinitai Meghe Hospital & Research Centre (SMHRC), Wanadongri, continues to reinforce its leadership in advanced cardiac care with the successful completion of four complex coronary angioplasty procedures performed under Intravascular Ultrasound (IVUS) guidance.
The procedures were carried out by the interventional cardiology team comprising Dr. Abhay Tidke and Dr. Rahul Barai, marking a significant milestone in the hospital’s commitment to technology driven, precision based cardiovascular treatment.
Advanced IVUS Technology Enables Precision Cardiac Care
All four cases involved highly complex coronary artery blockages that demanded meticulous planning and exceptional procedural accuracy. The use of IVUS technology enabled real time imaging from within the coronary arteries, allowing the team to precisely evaluate plaque characteristics, lesion severity, and vessel dimensions. This ensured optimal stent sizing, accurate placement, and uniform expansion, leading to improved safety and superior clinical outcomes.
Complex Procedures Successfully Conducted Under PMJAY
Notably, all angioplasty procedures were performed free of cost under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY), underscoring SMHRC’s mission to make world class cardiac care accessible to patients irrespective of socio economic backgrounds. All patients are reported to be clinically stable and recovering well.
The procedures were conducted under the expert anaesthesia care of Dr. Rupali Shendre, Cardiac Anaesthetist, and were strongly supported by the cath lab and nursing team including Sr. Sharda Kale (Cath Lab In Charge), Br. Tejas Shendre, and Sr. Vaishnavi Bharti. Cath lab technicians Mr. Chaitanya and Mr. Prathamesh, along with medical officers Dr. Nilkanth, Dr. Prachi, Dr. Gajanan, and Dr. Sonali, played a vital role in procedural success.
Seamless administrative coordination was managed by Dr. Noorul Ameen, Administrator – DBASI, with support from Mr. Praful Dhabekar (Radiology Manager), Mr. Pawan Chaple (Floor Manager), and Ms. Kajal Yede (Ward Assistant).
Speaking on the achievement, Dr. Abhay Tidke, Senior Interventional Cardiologist at SMHRC, stated: “Managing complex coronary artery disease requires not just clinical expertise but also advanced imaging support. IVUS allows us to visualize the lesion from within the artery, assess plaque morphology, and ensure precise stent deployment, significantly improving safety and long term success.”
Dr. Rahul Barai, Cardiologist at SMHRC, added: “All these advanced procedures were performed under the PMJAY scheme, ensuring equitable access to cutting edge cardiac care. IVUS has transformed our approach to complex angioplasty by reducing complications and improving outcomes.”
Dr. Anup Marar, Director, DMIHER Nagpur Campus, said: “At SMHRC, we consistently strive to combine clinical excellence with advanced technology. The successful execution of these IVUS guided angioplasties reflects our team’s dedication to delivering the highest standards of patient care.”
Dr. Vasant Gawande, CMS – SMHRC, echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing the institution’s commitment to inclusive healthcare under PMJAY. He reiterated the vision of the management, as conveyed by Dr. Nilesh Agarwal, Chief Operating Officer, DMIHER (DU), to ensure that quality healthcare reaches the underprivileged and the last person in need.
This achievement further strengthens Shalinitai Meghe Hospital & Research Centre’s reputation as a trusted centre for advanced cardiac interventions, delivering high quality, patient centric care through innovation, expertise, and compassion.
