Nagpur: World Kidney Day was observed with great enthusiasm by the Department of Medicine and Nephrology at Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Super speciality division of 1020 bedded Shalinitai Meghe Hospital & Research Institute. The awareness program was organized on the eve of World Kidney Day, observed every year on March 12 worldwide to promote awareness about kidney health, prevention of kidney diseases, and the importance of early diagnosis and timely treatment to reduce the burden of chronic kidney disease.
The program was conceptualized by nephrologists Dr. Vandana Baraskar and Dr. Prasad Gurjar with the objective of educating patients and the community about kidney diseases and their prevention. The event was graced by several dignitaries including Shri Ravi Meghe, Dr. Vasant Gawande (CMS), Dr. Sudhir Singh (AMS), Dr. Milind Bhrushundi (HoD Medicine), Dr. Rajiv Sonarkar (HoD Surgery), Dr. Kush Jhunjhunwala (HoD Paediatrics), and urologists Dr. Akshay Kriplani and Dr. Prajwal Mahatme, among others. More than 50 patients and their relatives attended the program and actively participated in the awareness session.
On this occasion, Dr. Vandana Baraskar delivered an informative talk highlighting common kidney diseases, their symptoms, preventive measures, and available treatment options. Dr. Prasad Gurjar emphasized the importance of early diagnosis, regular health check-ups, and the role of dialysis in managing advanced kidney disease. He stressed that timely medical intervention along with appropriate lifestyle modifications can significantly reduce complications related to kidney ailments.

Dr. Sudhir Singh, SMHRC AMS, also informed the audience about various government healthcare schemes such as Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana and Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Jan Arogya Yojana, under which treatment for kidney diseases and dialysis services are provided free of cost to eligible patients.
As part of the awareness initiative, three educational skits focusing on the prevention and awareness of kidney diseases were presented by dialysis technicians, dietetics students, and physiotherapy students. The performances effectively conveyed key health messages to the audience in an engaging and informative manner.
The program was successfully conducted with the dedicated efforts of Ms. Kajal, Sr. Kalpana, Ms. Aruna, Ms. Sakshi, and Ms. Kajal, who worked diligently to ensure smooth execution of the event. Administrative coordination was provided by Dr. Noorul Ameen, Administrator – DBASI, while Shri Pawan Chaple, Floor Manager, played a key role in coordinating the program effectively.
