According t the lunar calendar, the first day of Indian month of Chaita it is, the day of Gudi Padwa! The auspicious occasion is celebrated as the beginning of New Year to various religions. The fest even marks the beginning of spring season, and also holds a historical significance. This is a celebration of the victory march of Shivaji Maharaja the veteran Maratha leader. The festival is celebrated in honour of this great king who had a kingdom that spread across the entire part of western India. This is the reason people worship the gudi which is a cloth which flies like a flag that is usually a sign of victory in an army.

As a part of adding a noble cause to the celebration of this fest, Shri Shradhanand Anathalaya took a step forward. The residents of the orphanage prepared goodies, as a friendly gesture, which are now kept for sale in the premises of the orphanage.

A Gudi is usually made by tying a bright green, orange or yellow cloth adorned with brocade to a long bamboo and even made it on a wooden bamboo stand. Over the cloth is placed Gathi (a type of sweet), neem leaves, a twig of Mango leaves and a garland of red flowers is tied, with a copper pot place over it in an inverted position. People willing to be a part of this noble cause have come forward and bought the goodies in large number costing upto nominal price of Rs 50, 75, 150 or 200.
