Nagpur: A grisly crime shattered the calm of Central Railway Colony, Jaywant Nagar, under Ajni Police Station limits on Thursday morning. Two labourers working and living together at a construction site turned into the central figures of a chilling murder case after one allegedly strangled his colleague and then tried to burn the body to cover up the crime.

Burnt Body Found Under Suspicious Circumstances

Around 8:30 am on Thursday, 30-year-old labourer Dhansingh Daramsingh Uikey was found dead in his room, his body partially burnt. At first glance, it appeared to be an accidental fire. But the unusual condition of the room and the inconsistencies at the spot raised doubts among the police.

Postmortem Unmasks the Crime — Death by Strangulation

The real twist emerged after the postmortem. Doctors confirmed that Uikey did not die due to burns. He had been strangled to death before the attempt to set his body on fire. This revelation immediately turned the case into a homicide investigation.

CCTV Footage Exposes Key Suspect

Police quickly examined CCTV footage from the area. The cameras captured Uikey’s co-worker, 30-year-old Ganesh Dhurve, resident of Mandwa, Katangi, Aurai, leaving the room in a hurried and suspicious manner at 11:15 pm on November 19, moments after switching off the light. This became a vital lead.

Possible Dispute Behind the Killing

Both men worked as labourers at the same construction site in Jaywant Nagar and shared a room. Preliminary investigation suggests that an argument or personal dispute may have triggered the crime. Police believe Dhurve strangled Uikey and then attempted to burn the body to destroy all evidence.

Manhunt Launched; Area on Edge

Since the incident, the accused has been on the run. Ajni Police have registered a murder case and launched an intensive search for Ganesh Dhurve. The shocking nature of the incident has left the residents of Jaywant Nagar rattled as the investigation continues.
