Nagpur: In a shocking revelation made by the police, former Nagpur City Congress President Sheikh Hussain Abdul Jabbar, who is under scanner for alleged irregularities in the Hazrat Baba Tajuddin Trust in BadaTajbagh, has also been alleged to have embezzled funds from the donation boxes of the Trust.
The Economic Offences Wing (EOW ) has evidence to suggest that Hussain may have embezzled lakhs of rupees over five years during his tenure as the Chairman of the Trust. A police official said that donation boxes were opened every month, and around five to six lakhs in cash was deposited into the trust’s account, while the rest of the money allegedly went to Hussain’s house during his tenure as the chairman of the trust from January 1, 2011 to December 31, 2016.

The total amount accumulated in the donation box per month was around Rs 10 to 12 lakh per month, which suggests that Hussain may have embezzled a significant amount of money. Moreover, Hussain had sold land owned by the trust to 400 people, which has further raised suspicion about his activities. The police are investigating the matter thoroughly, and if concrete evidence is found, one more case of cheating will be registered against Hussain.
It may be mentioned here that the then Secretary Iqbal Ismail Belji has also been arrested along with Hussain, and both have been taken into police custody for interrogation. They have been charged for alleged involvement in a scam of Rs 1.5 crore in the trust.
The complaint was filed by Taj Ahmed Ali Ahmed Syed with the Sakkardara police on September 22, 2022, which led to the registration of a case of fraud against both Sheikh Hussain and Iqbal Ismail Belji. Both of them had applied for anticipatory bail in the Nagpur bench of the High Court, which was rejected by the court. Later, they applied for anticipatory bail in the Supreme Court, which was also rejected and the court directed Hussain and Belji to appear before the court of Judicial Magistrate First Class. The JMFC court remanded them to EOW custody till Wednesday. The arrest of Sheikh Hussain has caused a stir in political circles.
