Nagpur: In a major operation, Shantinagar Police in Nagpur raided an illegal gambling den operating near Bharati Akhada, opposite Itwari Railway Station, and arrested 18 people involved in gambling activities. Police also seized cash and materials worth ₹7.58 lakh from the spot.
The operation was carried out under the guidance of Police Commissioner Dr. Ravindrakumar Singal and supervision of DCP Nityanand Jha by the NDPS squad. The main accused, Ashok Yadav alias Babaji, along with other gamblers, was taken into custody. Items seized included cash, mobile phones, motorcycles, playing cards, and other gambling materials.
According to police, the prime accused Ashok Yadav has a criminal history with ten prior cases registered against him and has previously been externed from the city. Some of the other arrested individuals also have records under NDPS and other serious offenses.
The joint action by the NDPS unit and Shantinagar Police marks another success in the city’s ongoing crackdown on illegal activities. Police Commissioner Singal has reiterated a strict zero-tolerance policy toward crime, gambling, and all forms of unlawful conduct in Nagpur.
