Nagpur: In a significant verdict, the Additional District and Sessions Judge – 11, Nagpur, Kulkarni, sentenced 40-year-old Jitendra Patil, a resident of Kalamna, Nagpur, to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of Rs. 50,000. In case the fine is not paid, an additional one year of imprisonment has been imposed. The sentence comes under Sections 376(2)(N) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 42 of the POCSO Act, following strong evidence presented in the case.
The case, registered as FIR No. 922/2021 at Kalamna Police Station under Sections 376, 376(2)(J), 376(N)(F), 376(3) IPC along with Sections 4 and 6 of POCSO, involved the sexual assault of a minor girl. The victim, a 13-year-old daughter from the complainant’s first marriage, was subjected to sexual assault by the accused between July 6, 2021, and November 24, 2021, when no one was present at the house.
Following the complaint filed by the victim’s mother, the police registered the case against Patil, who was arrested on November 25, 2021.
The investigation was conducted by then Woman Police Sub-Inspector Khobragade, who submitted the charge sheet in court. The prosecution in the case was handled by Advocate Gawli, while the defense was represented by Advocate Jha. Investigating Officers Pramod Rathod and Woman Police Constable Harshada Chaudhary also played key roles during the investigation.
This ruling highlights the judiciary’s firm stance against sexual offenses against minors and reinforces the strict implementation of the POCSO Act in Nagpur.
