Nagpur: Seven members of a family have been booked on the charges of torturing of a man and forcing him to commit suicide over property matter.
According to details, Suresh Mukundrao Helonde (44), resident of Plot No. 136, Mahalaxmi Nagar, Manewada Road, had consumed some poisonous substance around 0200 hours of March 16, 2015. Following deterioration of his condition, Suresh was admitted to Government Medical College and Hospital. However, Suresh died at about 0430 hours on the same day while undergoing treatment. At that time Hudkeshwar police had registered a case of accidental death and investigating the matter from all angles.
Subsequent probe revealed that the deceased Suresh Helode was hounded and tortured by the seven accused. The mental and physical harassment of Suresh by the accused was aimed at forcing him to sell his share of house and vacate it. The seven accused Umakant Helonde, Prakash Helonde (brothers), Mukundrao Helonde (Father), Ashabai Helonde (Mother), Kavita Ajay Shastri (Sister), Sunita Rajendra Kuthe (Sister) and Damodhar Shastri (In-law) often doled out threats and tormented Suresh to sell his portion of the house. Fed up with the ordeal, Suresh consumed poison and committed suicide in his own house on March 16 night.
Hudkeshwar API Chaugule, based on a complaint filed by Archana Suresh Helonde (32), booked the seven members of the family under Sections 306, 34 of IPC and probing the matter further.
