
Nagpur: Ahead of the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) General Elections 2025–26, the civic body has intensified voter awareness efforts under the Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) programme. As part of the initiative, selfie points have been set up at prominent locations across the city to encourage youth and citizens to participate actively in the democratic process.
The selfie point at Futala Lake was inaugurated on Thursday by NMC Commissioner and Administrator Dr Abhijeet Chaudhari. Marking the occasion, the Commissioner took a selfie himself and appealed to citizens, especially young voters, to exercise their right to vote in large numbers.
Additional Commissioners Ms Vasumana Pant and Ms Vaishnavi B, Deputy Commissioners, SVEEP Nodal Officer Dr Ranjana Lade, RTM Nagpur University NSS Director Sopan Dev Pise, Public Relations Officer Manish Soni, Sports Officer Dr Piyush Ambulkar, SVEEP Coordinator Sushant Chimankar, Social Development Department officials Rajesh Meshram and Vinay Tembhurne, along with NSS students from Nagpur Veterinary College, NMC officers, staff members, and a large number of youths were present.

To enhance voter awareness and participation across all sections of society, selfie points are being developed at key locations including Reshimbagh Chowk (Central Nagpur), Ambedkar Garden (East Nagpur), Vivekananda Memorial (South-West Nagpur), Futala Lake (West Nagpur), Jhulelal Park (North Nagpur), and Gandhibagh Garden (Central Nagpur). Citizens have been encouraged to share their selfies on social media and tag NMC’s official Instagram handle @nmcngp.
Polling for the Nagpur Municipal Corporation elections is scheduled for January 15, from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm. As part of the SVEEP campaign, various voter outreach activities will be conducted until January 13, including selfie points, voter awareness vans, campus connect programmes, “Walk with Voters,” bike rallies, human chains, and balloon festivals during Makar Sankranti.
Earlier, leveraging the festive spirit of Christmas, NMC had also implemented an innovative awareness campaign at 40 locations across the city using Santa Claus-themed activities to promote voter participation.
