In a cracking action, Sadar police arrested eight members of car borne gang and foiled looting of a petrol pump in the dead hours of of Thursday night. Cops have seized a Mauser gun, knives, wooden sticks, ropes, three cars collectively worth Rs 18.70 lakh.
The Assistant Police Inspector Pawar and his team was on patrol duty in Sadar area between 0040 and 0230 hours of Thursday. During the patrolling, the sharp eyes of the cops spotted some suspicious looking persons gathered in three cars at Rural Tehsil Office situated on Mount Road. The police team surrounded the persons and asked them the reason for assembling at such dead hours of night. The persons fumbled and could not give satisfactory replies to the cops. On suspicion, the police frisked all the suspects and found a Mauser gun, three knives, wooden sticks, ropes, three cars collectively worth Rs 18.70 lakh in their possession. With the seizer of the deadly material, the Sadar cops arrested the 8 members of the gang. A sustained grilling revealed that the gang was planning to loot a petrol pump on Central Avenue. The arrested accused have been identified as Pankaj alias Mama Moreshwar Dhote (25) of Yogendra Nagar, Abdul Karim Abdul Sheikh (32) of Mankapur, Pushpendra Satyapal Sharma (31) of Bhupesh Nagar, Borgaon, Shanijan Shahumal (30) of Railway Quarters Mount Road, Rahul Sushil Bhalerao (21) of Gorewada, Rohit Manohar Sirsat (23) of Borgaon Patel Nagar, Gaurav Hariom Agrawal (24) of Gandhi Square, Sadar and Rohit Rupsingh Thakur (24) of Bhupesh Nagar, Borgaon.
All the eight members of the gang have been booked under Section 399 of IPC read with Sub-Sections 3, 4+25 of Arms Act and placed under arrest.
Yesterday also (April 29), the DB Squad of Nandanvan police had foiled a dacoity plan and arrested four members of a car borne gang in Small Factory Area in Bagadganj. A white colured Indica Car (MH-31/CA 2518) and lethal arms were seized from the arrested gang members. The dacoity plan could be foiled due to an alert cop who was listening to the four members slyly.
