Nagpur: The Nagpur police officials are suspecting monetary disputes as the reason behind the firing incident at the Regional Transport Office (RTO) by a female official. The investigators got their hands on important proofs that could establish monetary dispute as the reason.

Commissioner of Police (CP) Amitesh Kumar confirmed the information and said that the case is complicated and monetary dispute was one of the reasons behind the firing. CP Kumar on Monday sent a letter to the State Government to suspend Motor Vehicle Inspectors (MVIs) Geeta Shejwal and Sanket Gaikwad from the duties due to their illegal activities.

InvestIgatIon in the firing incident revealed that a senior RTO official was also involved in destroying evidence and hiding the information from the government. After being injured in the firing incident, MvI Gaikwad was admitted to the hospital with the help of the senior RTO official’s wife who is a practising paediatrician. The RTO official and his wife will be questioned by the city police in coming days, said a police official.

Earlier, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) had proposed the suspension of MVI Geeta Shejwal after she was trapped by ACB officials last year. However, senior RTO officials have yet to take any action on the report.

It may be mentioned here that MVI Shejwal faces charges under Section 307 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for attempted murder, while MVI Gaikwad is implicated under Section201 of the IPC for destroying evidence. The police investigation revealed that on May 5, 2022, MVI Shejwal had fired a shot at MVI Gaikwad. Gaikwad, a resident of Central Bazaar Road, initially claimed the discharge of his service revolver was accidental which occurred when he was preparing for duty.

Allegations against Gaikwad include providing inaccurate information to the police, fabricating a false crime scene, and tampering with evidence at the scene. The Bajaj Nagar police initially overlooked the case but shifted focus under CP Kumar’s intervention.
