‘RTI is not for merely seeking info, but also for raising questions of accountability’ : Modi

New Delhi/ Nagpur: “The scope of RTI should not be limited to mere seeking information but also to be extended to raising relevant questions. If people ask questions to the Government regarding its functioning, it will help strengthen democracy and also empower people in the process of good governance,” said Prime Minister Narendra Modi during inauguration of Two-day 10th Annual Convention of Central Information Commission in New Delhi on Friday, said media reports.

In his address, he remarked against previous Congress government on spectrum scam and said that after his government came to power everything in the scam was made transparent. He also critically remarked that the nations has come to know about coal-gate, and even the Supreme Court had to come forward to take stock of situation. The NDA government abiding by its commitment of transparency made online auction of coal.

Modi told the citizens that his government would  advance keeping the futuristic vision of the nation. He recalled the days of his being Gujarat CM when he had granted liberty to people to raise question as it their right to ask. He had taken all his MLAs into confidence and convinced them that public queries are significant in a democratic set up of governance.

The topic of two-day convention is “Right to Information: Futuristic Vision–Confidence Building through Transparency.”

The convention will also be addressed by Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, Union Minister Jitender Singh and others in the prominent presence of head of various organisations, directors and secretaries of various departments, police commissioners, officers of defence and paramilitary forces and other officials.
