Nagpur: Emphasising the role of discipline and dedication in shaping society, Dr Mohan Bhagwat on Wednesday said that the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh has been built on the selfless efforts and commitment of its Swayamsevaks who work quietly for the larger goal of nation building.

Bhagwat was speaking at the release of the manuscript titled “RSS Nagpur Mahanagar Ghosh Pathak” at the premises of Smruti Mandir on Wednesday evening.

Addressing the gathering, Bhagwat said that Swayamsevaks often lead simple lives but their dedication and actions frequently take them to remarkable heights while working for the welfare of society. He noted that the Ghosh Pathak, a traditional band formation within the Sangh, was introduced by earlier generations of volunteers to instil discipline and nurture a spirit of national pride.

Explaining the significance of the tradition, Bhagwat said the Ghosh Pathak enhances the organised appearance of the Sangh during marches and events through the use of traditional and brass instruments, strengthening unity and morale among volunteers.

“Swayamsevaks come from diverse backgrounds and rarely get regular time for practice. Yet whenever they perform at major events, their presentations have been appreciated even by noted musicians and singers,” he said, adding that volunteers practise with complete dedication whenever they find time.

Bhagwat clarified that the programme was not meant to be a celebration but an effort to showcase the Sangh’s century-old traditions. He described the manuscript as a milestone that would inspire future Swayamsevaks and the younger generation. The document has been compiled to chronicle the history and functioning of the RSS Nagpur Mahanagar Ghosh Pathak.

The event began with the hoisting of the RSS flag, followed by the screening of a short film tracing the evolution of the Ghosh Pathak and the emphasis placed on it by former Sarsanghchalaks.

A highlight of the programme was a 45-minute Ghosh Pathak performance by Swayamsevaks, which received enthusiastic applause from the audience. Musicians played patriotic and spirited compositions using instruments such as clarinet, flute, drums and trumpet.

Among those present on the dais were Deepak Tamshettiwar, Vidarbha Prant Sanghchalak; Shridhar Gadge, Vidarbha Prant Sahasanghachalak; and Rajesh Loya, Mahanagar Sanghachalak. Shantakka, Pramukh Sanchalika of Rashtriya Sevika Samiti, along with Sunil Kulkarni and several other dignitaries, also attended the programme.
