Rs. 50 crore Vasudeo Gaitonde painting missing from Nirlon House in Mumbai

Mumbai: A Vasudeo Gaitonde painting worth Rs. 50 crore is reported to be missing from Nirlon House in Mumbai’s Worli, police have said. A complaint has been lodged in the matter with the Mumbai Police.

A complaint in this regard has been lodged at Worli Police Station on Sunday, DCP Ashok Dudhe said.

Police are probing the matter, he added.

The complainant is Nirlon Ltd’s prominent shareholder and businessman Janak Mathuradas, who spotted a similar painting at an exhibition in New York, police said.

After spotting Gaitonde’s artwork which used to be in the board room of Nirlon House, he gave a written complaint to Worli police.

The complainant told police that the painting has been stolen. The 1960 painting costs around Rs. 50 crore, he said.
