Residents Doctors withdraw strike; Resume work

Nagpur News: After getting assurance of proper safety and security, the striking Doctors of Government Medical College and Hospital, under the Maharashtra Association of Registered Doctors (MARD) have called off the strike and have resumed their duties on June 19, 2014.

Minister for Medical Education Jitendra Awhad and Director Dr Praveen Shinghare had a long discussion regarding the long pending demands of MARD in Mumbai with President of MARD Dr Magdum. Based on the discussions, the following demands have been ayed.

  1. The demand for increasing the number of security guards from 20 to 30 has been agreed.
  2. The minister has assured to have a discussion on June 27, 2014 with the Police Department about increasing the number of CCTV and about the procurement and installation of advanced CCTVs as soon as possible.
  3. The Minister has also ayed the appointments and filling of vacant positions of Class IV employees lifting the ban of many years.
  4. The Minister has assured MARD about discussing and okaying the remaining demands at the meeting proposed to be held in Nagpur on June 27, 2014.

Since most of their important demands of MARD were met, they have since withdrawn the strike on June 19, 2014 at 1800 hrs and have resumed their work.
