Red-faced Mpl Commissioner puts foot down, orders Property Tax recovery from defaulters

With the number of Property Tax defaulters rising every day and the NMC babus bungling and fumbling on recovery front, the outraged Municipal Commissioner Shyam Wardhane put his foot down and ordered initiation of stern action against non-payers of the crucial tax to achieve the target. Wardhane was presiding over a review meeting on Property Tax recovery wherein the Tax Assessor Shashikant Hastak informed that the civic body has recovered only Rs 77.22 crore till 28.10.2014. This abysmal figure prompted Wardhane to order action against defaulters.

The Municipal Commissioner directed all the Zone Assistant Commissioner to take at least 10 warrant and seizer actions on daily basis and also warned of strict action against irresponsible officials and employees. The 10 Zones have been given daily recovery targets and the Assistant Commissioners must pursue these targets, said Wardhane.

“Initiate warrant and seizer actions against defaulters and carry out assessment of all open plots. Similarly, recover pending Property Tax dues from Government-Semi-Government hotels and guest house for achieving the recovery target in all earnest,” directed Wardhane.

The review meeting was attended among others by Deputy Municipal Commissioner Sanjay Kakde, Tax Assessor Shashikant Hastak, City Engineer Sanjay Gaekwad, Exe3cutive Enginner Manoj Talewar, Dilip Jamgade, Development Engineer Rahul Warke, Traffic Engineer K L Sonkusre, Tax Superintendent Madan Subhedar and all Zone Assistant Commissioners, Deputy Engineers, Tax Inspectors and other concerned officials.

Rs 16,93,554 recovered in Ashi Nagar Zone-9:

Continuing its crack down on defaulters, the NMC recovered Rs 16,93,554 Property Tax by way of seizer action in Ward Nos. 43, 56 and 57 of Ashi Nagar Zone-9. Those who faced the action include Laxman Chunnilal Harode of Jaiprakash Housing Society Ltd – Pending amount Rs 45,702, NIT and Surendra Nandlal Botha – Rs 52,147, Krishnakumar Gendlal Shahu, Ramesh Gendlal Dorlikar, Narendra Kashinath Chhaparghare – Rs 1,84,404, Anubai Rajaram Adyalkar – Rs 1,97,061, Hiraman Tatobaji Bagde – Rs 2,43,199, Dinesh Motilal Kotecha – Rs 1,77,500, Rajendra Narayan Patil – Rs 1,52,094, Dr Pundlik Ghorpade and others – Rs 1,42,511, Harneyusingh Santasingh Saunde – Rs 72,596, Saroj Narayan Meshram – Rs 1,44,665, Ishwaridevi Parmanand Walesa – Rs 72,932, Rana Tilakraj Khurana – Rs 74,185. Total pending Property Tax dues recovered stood at Rs 16,93,554 after the NMC initiated seizer action against the respective properties of defaulters.
