Rash driving kills two in Sadar, Jaripatka; One arrested, another absconding

An elderly man was arrested while an unidentified person was booked for rash driving that killed two persons in separate accidents in Sadar and Jaripatka police station areas on Wednesday.

The first accident took place at around 10.40 pm on Wednesday on Kamptee Road. The deceased is Sanjay Bhiwaji Kurve (40), a resident of Siddharth Nagar, Teka Naka, Pachpaoli. Police sources said deceased was riding on his bicycle from Gaddigodam Square to Kamptee Road when a rashly driven Maruti 800 car (MH 31 H 5301) hit his bicycle from rear. Sanjay fell on the ground with the impact. Nearby commuters rushed Sanjay to Mayo Hospital for treatment but after struggling for few hours, Sanjay succumbed to his injuries at around 3.30 am on Thursday. The commuters also grabbed the car driver Anand Atre (78), a resident of Hazari Pahad Road, Gittikhadan, and handed him over to Sadar police who also reached the spot on being informed.

Sadar police have registered an offence under sections 279, 338, 304 (a) of the IPC against Anand and took him into custody.

In another case, a middle-aged man was hit by an unknown rashly driven vehicle on Wednesday night at around 11.15 pm. The deceased has been identified as Yashpal Bhalerao (45), a resident near Samta Nagar nullah, Nari Road, Jaripatka. He was heading towards Mankapur from Automotive Square to Kamptee road when he lost balance over his vehicle and fell down. As Yashpal tried to stand up, a speeding vehicle coming from the opposite direction hit him, killing him on the spot. The unknown vehicle sped away soon after. Some commuters spotted Yashpal lying unconscious on the road and informed Jaripatka police. Yashpal was dead by the time police reached at the spot. The body was later sent to Mayo hospital for post mortem.

Cops have registered an offence under sections 279 and 304 (a) read with sub sections 134 and 177 of the Motor Vehicle Act. Search for the ‘killer’ driver is in progress.
