Nagpur: A 23-year old youth arrested for allegedly kidnapping and raping a minor girl attempted suicide in the lock-up of Hudkeshwar Police Station on Monday night.
Sheikh Tausif Sheikh Faizan Taj, a resident of Shahanshah Chowk, Tajbag, was arrested by the police on charges under Sections 363, 376 of the Indian Penal Code, read with Section 4 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act and kept in the lock-up. Around 8.30 pm, Sheikh Tausif attempted to end his life by hanging from the window grill using a piece of blanket.

An alert woman cop spotted Touseef trying to commit suicide and raised an alarm. He had used a thick string from his blanket to use as a noose and hang from the grill.
Police personnel on guard duty brought him down and rushed him to Government Medical College & Hospital where he is undergoing treatment.
Following a complaint lodged by ASI Nandkishor Tayade, Hudkeshwar Police registered a case under Section 309 (Attempt to commit suicide) of the Indian Penal Code against accused Sheikh Tausif. Further investigations are underway.
