Nagpur: The Nagpur Hawkers, Footpath Shopkeepers Association staged a protest on Sunday, forming a human chain at Mahal Chowk to decry the recent eviction of licensed shopkeepers in Mahal. The demonstrators held placards, expressing outrage against the municipal authorities’ actions, which they claim are unjust and discriminatory.
The protest was sparked by the removal of long-standing vendors, who have been operating in the area for over 50 years, despite holding valid licenses. The association alleges double standards, citing the selective enforcement of laws. While some vendors have been targeted for eviction, others in similar situations have been allowed to continue their operations without interference.
The association demands a uniform application of the law across the city, questioning why vendors in the Mahal area are being singled out while those in other parts of the city face no scrutiny. The protest highlights concerns about the inconsistent application of the law, seeking fair treatment for all vendors.
