Nagpur: “People of Maharashtra bestowed with us the responsibility of fulfilling their aspirations and hopes. Nagpur and Vidarbha are our ‘Karmabhumis.’ We have accepted the responsibility of making the State most prosperous in all the fields by carrying out development works not only in Nagpur but entire State. It will be jewel in the crown of the country,” declared Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis here on Sunday.
Fadnavis was speaking after receiving the prestigious Nagbhushan Puraskar awarded by Nagbhushan Foundation in a special programme held at Sai Sabhagruha, Rashtrabhasha Complex, near Shankar Nagar Square. Union Surface Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari presented the award. Fadnavis was selected for the prestigious award for the year 2016 for his outstanding work for Vidarbha’s cause at State as well as at international level and also for contribution in social and political fields.
The function was presided over by Union Minister of State for Home Hansraj Ahir while former Judge of Supreme Court V S Sirpurkar was chief guest. Other dignitaries who graced the occasion include Guardian Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, Rajya Sabha Members Ajay Sancheti, Dr Vikas Mahatme, Mayor Pravin Datke, former MP Datta Meghe, Nagbhushan Foundation President Prabhakarrao Mundle, Vice President Satyanarayan Nuwal, Secretary Girish Gandhi, Treasurer Brajkishore Agrawal and other prominent personalities from various fields.
The award comprises Rs 1 lakh cash and scroll of honour.
Till now, 14 eminent personalities have been conferred with the Nagbhushan Puraskar for their excellent work in various fields in Vidarbha.
Promising to develop every part of Maharashtra, Fadnavis assured people of the State that his Government is working with dedication to ensure overall development of Vidarbha. He made it clear that while ensuring progress of Nagpur and giving the Orange City its legitimate due, he will ensure that other major cities like Mumbai, Nashik, Pune will not lag behind. The Chief Minister thanked the Nag Bhushan Foundation and stated that the award would remind him about his duties in future.
In his address, Gadkari had all praise for Fadnavis and called him a dedicated man with great intellectual capability and capacity to lead state. As Chief Minister, Fadnavis had given new momentum and direction to the development of Maharashtra state, Gadkari said.
