Nagpur: In a shocking turn of events, a renowned doctor from the Mankapur area of Nagpur, Dr Ashiq Rasheed Barade (42), has been arrested by Ajni police for allegedly selling an infant by forging her birth certificate. Dr Barade, who owns the well-established Barade Nursing Home, a three-storey facility in Mankapur, is now at the centre of a criminal investigation.
The case unfolded when a woman approached Ajni police and lodged a complaint against a resident of Mankapur named Ashish Ghanshyam Laddhad. According to the victim’s statement, she was coerced into a physical relationship with the accused, resulting in her pregnancy. On March 28, 2022, Laddhad, accompanied by the woman, reportedly visited Dr Barade’s nursing home located in Kolte Layout, Godhni Railway, where she gave birth to a baby girl.
Following the delivery, Dr Barade discharged the woman from the hospital but kept the newborn under the pretext of the baby being unwell. Concerned about the baby’s safety, the victim raised an alarm. Additionally, Laddhad began to abuse the woman and even threatened to harm her father. Acting on the victim’s complaint, the police registered a case against Ashish Laddhad under Sections 376(2)(N), 384, 294, and 506(B) of the Indian Penal Code.
During subsequent investigations, it was discovered that Dr Barade allegedly manipulated records and forged a birth certificate for the infant. These falsified documents were then presented at the Gram Panchayat in Godhani, where Dr Barade purportedly registered the birth without notifying any government organization. Shockingly, he proceeded to sell the baby to an unidentified couple.
Dr Barade has been taken into custody by the police, who are currently delving deeper into the extent of the racket and its potential impact on other individuals. The Commissioner of Police (CP), Amitesh Kumar, and Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone IV), Vijaykant Sagar, are overseeing the investigation, led by API Amol Dond.
The arrest of Dr Ashiq Rasheed Barade highlights the grave nature of the alleged infant trafficking and forgery scheme in Nagpur. The law enforcement agencies are committed to unravelling the full scope of the criminal activities involved and ensuring that justice is served.
