Pratap Nagar ASI Shejul trapped for Rs 1.50 lakh bribe

Nagpur: In a big action, sleuths of Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Wednesday trapped an Assistant Sub-Inspector of Pratap Nagar Police Station for demanding Rs 5 lakh and trying to accept Rs 1.50 lakh from a man for sparing of action against him in a cheating case.

The accused ASI is Bhagwan Shejul (55). According to the complainant, Pratap Nagar police had received a complaint against him a month ago. ASI Shejul was asked to conduct probe into the complaint. During investigation, the accused contacted the complainant and demanded bribe of Rs 5 lakh for not registering an offence under Section 420 of the IPC against him. The accused ASI assured the complainant that he would register a non-cognisable offence. Taken aback by the bribe demand, the complainant approached the ACB and registered a case against ASI Shejul.

The ACB sleuths, on the basis of the complaint, laid a trap. The accused ASI asked the complainant to give Rs 1.50 lakh as first instalment and showed readiness to accept the bribe. The ACB officers registered an offence under Section 7(A) of Prevention of Corruption Act against ASI Shejul.

The action was initiated by Deputy Superintendent of Police Shankar Shelke, Police Inspectors Vinod Aade, Jaipalsingh Ahirrao and others under the supervision of SP(ACB) P R Patil and Additional SP Rajesh Duddalwar.
