Nagpur: State Energy Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule has asserted that the authority to increase power tariff rests with MERC (Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission). Power tariff to will be hiked but only after MERC permission. The MSEDCL (Mahavitaran) has submitted a proposal to this effect to MERC, added Bawankule.
“The MSEB Holding Company held a meeting recently. In this meeting too, the MSEDCL has submitted the proposal for tariff hike but no decision has so far been taken in this regard. The MSEDCL has proposed 4 percent hike. MERC will go through the proposal and then will seek the views of consumers. After the hearing, the MERC will give its decision on whether the hike is appropriate or not,” said Bawankule.
The minister further said that if the power tariff is increased it will be applicable to all the consumers including industries. The industries are given concession as an incentive and the concessional money will be compensated by giving State Government funds to the MSEDCL. However, the final decision will be taken by the Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, clarified Bawankule.
Provident Fund of security guards:
Bawankule said that the issue of implementation of Provident Fund of security guards belonging to Nagpur District Security Guards’ Board is subject of Government level. However, the matter will be pursued with Labour Ministry and concrete decision could be arrived at, assured the Minister.

Vanjra Layout problems:
The citizens of Vanjra Layout in North Nagpur complained to the Minister that they are facing acute shortage of power, water supply as well as proper roads. The NIT authorities informed the Minister that this particular part has not been regularized. Bawankule directed the Branch Engineer and Deputy Engineer to survey the part and prepare a proposal regarding the likely expenditure for extending the basic facilities to the citizens of this area.
Besa-Beltarodi:
Bawankule urged the citizens of Besa-Beltarodi to be part of NMC limits for availing benefits of proper roads, power, water supply and development of gardens. Since the areas fall in Gram Panchayat jurisdiction, NMC cannot interfere and provide the basic facilities on its own.
