Nagpur: In a remarkable display of bravery and dedication, police driver Mohd Hadis from Nagpur chased a taxi and apprehended four women belonging to an interstate gang of thieves and tricksters from Delhi. The incident unfolded on Sunday when Hadis, on a scooter, chased down a cab carrying members of the gang, ultimately intercepting them near Shree Mohini Complex.

The gang, hailing from New Delhi and comprising individuals including transgenders, had been under the radar of law enforcement. Following the arrest of two of their associates earlier that day in a separate location, the remaining members were attempting to flee the city.

Undeterred by the odds stacked against him, Hadis exhibited exceptional courage and quick thinking as he single-handedly chased the cab, undeterred by the early hour and the ongoing observance of Ramzan. Sacrificing his pre-dawn meal (Sehri), he prioritized the safety of the community and the apprehension of the criminals.

This swift and decisive action by Mohd Hadis not only led to the capture of the four women thieves but also prevented further criminal activities by dismantling a significant portion of the interstate gang’s operations. His dedication to duty and selflessness serve as a shining example of the commitment of law enforcement personnel in ensuring the safety and security of the public.

Sitabuldi cops under Senior PI Asaram Chormale were searching the Nagpur railway station area after Crime Branch Senior Inspector Rahul Sire’s team nabbed two persons, including a transgender, from Rahate Nagar Toli near Rameshwari. The rest had managed to slip away.

According to police, the accused had secured a room in Toli, Ramteke Nagar, in Ajni Police Station area of the city. They gathered intelligence on weekly markets through online searches. Their modus operandi involved targeting women, particularly those commuting in cars. One member would feign insanity while others would deceive victims by claiming there was money in their bag. The bundle typically contained a single note atop pieces of paper, said police.

Police suspect the gang operated with a hierarchical structure, with women being lured in while male counterparts monitored the situation and handled stolen goods. The Unit 5 of the Crime Branch investigated cases reported in Koradi, leading to the identification of the accused through CCTV footage. Although the accused fled upon sensing police presence in Ramteke Nagar, the police managed to arrest Harish and Arjun, identified from the footage.

The police asked Harish to contact Ruhi who told him that they were at Itwari Railway Station. The police launched an operation at Itwari Railway Station. A thorough search of the platform vehicle yielded no leads. The cyber cell traced the accused to the main railway station. As a result, Sitabuldi Police launched an operation at Nagpur Railway Station which culminated in the arrest of four additional accused.

Hadis, who had driven the Sitabuldi police team to Nagpur railway station, was waiting near the vehicle. A scooterist alerted him that four women had just boarded a cab outside the railway station. Hadis immediately commandeered the scooter and asked the owner to ride pillion. Hadis managed to intercept the cab booked for Itarsi, from where the gang planned to take a train to Delhi.

They confessed to committing robberies at Panchpaoli, Koradi, Old Kamthi, Dhantoli, and Nandanvan Police Station areas. The police seized valuables worth Rs 3.67 lakh, including 50 gram gold, two mobile phones, and Rs 23,000 cash. The remaining stolen assets are believed to be in possession of Ruhi, Rajni and Ajay.
