Police Constable absconds after accepting bribe of Rs 5000, ACB launches hunt

Nagpur: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), Nagpur, has booked a Police Constable attached to Crime Cell of Pachpaoli Police Station for accepting bribe of Rs 5000. However, the accused Constable has gone absconding after pocketing the bribe amount and a hunt has been launched to arrest him.

According to a complaint received by the ACB, the Police Constable Sayyad Nasim Johar (48), attached to Crime Cell of Pachpaoli Police Station, Nagpur City, demanded a bribe of Rs 20,000 from the complainant for sparing the arrest of his nephew and four other accomplices in vehicle theft and other offences. Out of the Rs 20,000 bribe, the Police Constable demanded Rs 5000 as first installment immediately and the remaining amount later, said the complaint.

Acting on the complaint, the ACB, Nagpur Unit laid a trap in the premises of Pachpaoli Police Station on March 19. During the trap, the ACB team found the Police Constable Nasim Sayyad Johar (Buckle No. 2528) demanding bribe of Rs 20,000 and accepting Rs 5000 as first installment from the complainant. However, sensing trouble (trap), the Constable Nasim Sayyad Johar fled the spot and went absconding soon after pocketing the bribe amount.

After registering an offence with Pachpaoli police against the accused Constable Naism Sayyad Johar under Sections 7, 13(1)(D) read with Sections 13(2) of Prevention of Corruption Act 1988 and Section 201 of IPC, the ACB team searched the accused Constable’s residence near Hafiz Bakery, Mominpura, Nagpur and launched a hunt to nab him.
