PM Modi opens new CBI office in Nagpur through video conferencing

Nagpur: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday inaugurated the Diamond Jubilee celebrations of the Central Bureau of Investigation(CBI). He also inaugurated the newly-constructed offices of CBI in Nagpur, Shillong and Pune through video conferencing.

A CBI official said that the Nagpur CBI unit was established on February 11, 1991. Since then, the office was running on the third floor of CGO Complex, Seminary Hills, in an area of 3,994 sq. feet. In the past 22 years, the strength of officers at CBI Nagpur increased with the number of cases and workload. A proposal to build an independent building for the CBI was sent to the Centre.

On September 9,2015, the Ministry of Urban Development allotted 0.59 acres of land for the CBI office in Civil Lines, near IBM. The construction work of the new building started on September 1, 2020. The construction work of the two storey building was completed on December 31, 2022 at a cost of Rs 7.30 crore.

In the new building, seating arrangements have been made for 73 officers and staffers, including the Superintendent of Police. The office also has the facility of a conference hall, two safe houses and gymnasium.

PM Modi congratulated the CBI officers after inaugurating the new buildings. He said that the new office and other facilities will play an important role in strengthening the CBI. The jurisdiction of CBI Nagpur Unit covers 11 districts of Vidarbha region. Various organisations, including WCL, MOIL, MECL, IBM have their headquarters in Nagpur. Apart from this, CBI also monitors other institutions, including Ordnance Factory, Railways and Power Grid. Currently, DIG Salim Khan is the in-charge of Nagpur CBI Unit.
