Nagpur: Government has announced a sharp hike in petrol and diesel prices, increasing fuel rates by ₹3 per litre with immediate effect amid rising global crude oil prices linked to escalating tensions in the Middle East and the ongoing Iran conflict.
The latest fuel price revision marks the first major hike in nearly four years and is expected to directly impact transportation costs, daily commodities, logistics, and inflation across the country.
According to reports, oil marketing companies were facing mounting losses as international crude prices surged due to supply concerns around the Strait of Hormuz — one of the world’s most critical oil transit routes.
Nagpur Fuel Prices Today
Following the ₹3 hike, fuel prices in Nagpur are expected to cross:
- Petrol: Around ₹107 per litre
- Diesel: Around ₹93.5 per litre
Before the hike, petrol in Nagpur was trading near ₹104 per litre, while diesel was around ₹90.5 per litre.
Why Fuel Prices Have Increased
Global oil prices have witnessed sharp volatility due to the ongoing geopolitical crisis in West Asia. Supply disruptions, fears over shipping routes, and rising import costs have increased pressure on Indian fuel retailers.
Reports indicate state-run oil companies were suffering heavy under-recoveries while maintaining stable retail prices over the past several years.
Impact On Common Citizens
The fuel price hike is likely to increase:
- Transportation and cab fares
- Vegetable and grocery prices
- Delivery and logistics costs
- Bus and commercial vehicle operating expenses
Experts also warn that if crude oil prices continue rising globally, inflationary pressure may increase further in the coming weeks.
