Pathetic Roads : NMC wakes up to repair potholes

Nagpur:. Amid the hues and cries of the pathetic condition of roads that have made commuting a dangerous ride, especially for two-wheelers, NMC has woken up from slumber to seek condition of roads. The hot department of NMC has submitted a proposal of Rs 3.41 crore for procuring bitumen, tar and fund for labourers before the standing committee meeting to be held on October 1.

The proposals says that Rs 2.30 crore would be spent on procuring bitumen for carrying out potholes repair works in above 12 MTR wide roads. Similarly, the department will need panel’s nod to purchase tar worth Rs 40.16 lakh. The department has submitted a proposal to earmark a fund of Rs 43.36 lakh for hiring labourers to carry out the repair works.

Besides this, four other proposals will also be tabled before the meeting to be chaired by standing committee chairman Virendra Kukreja. The executive engineer DP road department has submitted a proposal of Rs 87.28 lakh on road widening from Pivli Marbat railway crossing to Pachpavaleshwar Mandir. The public works department of Mangalwari zone too has submitted a proposal for asphalting a road in Yogendra Nagar and sought funds of Rs 26.48 lakh.

The project department has sought the panel’s nod for giving nod to a civil contractor for constructing a volleyball court in Sonegaon area. For the work, the civic body has already received Rs 28.75 lakh from chief minister’s fund.
