Nagpur News: Tension prevailed in Lakadganj area after two youths attacked a man and his friend with sharp-edged weapons.  The accident took place at around 9.30 pm on Tuesday when Rajendra Shankarlal Barapatre (37) was going back home with his friend Arvind Jagan Gokhale (28) from Raut square to Lalganj Gujri Square.

Sources said, Rajendra had a verbal duel with Uday alias Kalu Manbahadur Nepali (23) on Tuesday. But the tiff settled and Ranjendra left from there to avoid further argument. While Rajendra was going back home with his friend Arvind Gokhale towards Lalganj Gujri Square, in front of Raju Umredkar house, Uday along with Ritesh Choudhary (22), came from behind with sharp-edged weapons and attacked them. Uday hit Rajendra on head, stomach and back with a sword thus injuring him critically. The sight of this bloody scene instilled so much fear in the nearby residents that no one dared to come out to help Ranjendra.

Someone informed the cops who rushed to the spot. But, the accused had already fled away. Injured Rajendra and Arvind, both residents of Maskasath, near Sambhaji Kasar Mandir, were sent to Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital for treatment. However, condition of Ranjendra was critical, the doctors said.

On the complaint of Arvind, police have booked Uday, a resident of Maskasath, near bridge and Ritesh, a resident of Telipura under Section 37 (1) (3) and 307, 34 of the IPC read with 7 of the Criminal Law Amendment Act read with Sub Sections 4+25 and 135 of Mumbai Police Act.

It is to be mentioned that Uday had attacked Rajendra’s brother Nilesh 15 days ago and stabbed him with a knife thus injuring him critically. The possibility of old rivalry cannot be ruled out in this case, the police said. Police have launched search for the accused and have started further investigations in the case.
