Nagpur: Declaring the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) headquarters at Mahal as a ‘no-drone’ zone, Nagpur Police on Thursday extended the ban on photography and videography of the premises and the roads connected to it till June 27.

Citing a potential threat to RSS HQ, Joint Commissioner of Police Aswati Dorje, in exercise of the powers conferred on her under Section 144 (1) (3) of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), promulgated the orders prohibiting photography and videography of the RSS headquarters as it is located in a densely populated area surrounded by hotels, lodges and coaching classes. Persons violating the order would face action under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code.

Earlier, on January 28, Joint Commissioner of Police Aswathi Dorje had issued an order declaring the RSS Headquarters in Nagpur’s Mahal area as a ‘no-drone’ zone and banned photography and videography of the premises till March 28

The RSS headquarter has been a target for terrorists over an extended period. On June 1, 2006, three Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists were neutralised by police personnel while attempting to infiltrate the building. Since then, a large number of armed police personnel have been stationed to ensure the security of the headquarters. Simultaneously, the police are vigilant regarding intelligence indicating that Naxals may be utilising small drones for surveillance of security forces near the Maharashtra-Chhattisgarh borders.
