‘Operation Shakti’: Two held for human trafficking, sex trade in Panchpaoli

Nagpur: Acting under “Operation Shakti”, an initiative launched on the concept of the Commissioner of Police, Nagpur City, to dismantle networks involved in human trafficking and commercial sexual exploitation, the Crime Branch’s Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) busted a sex trade operation in the Panchpaoli area on Monday and rescued two victimised girls.

The action was carried out between 1.40 pm and 9.30 pm on February 9, 2026, after the crime branch team received specific information while on patrolling duty. The tip-off suggested that two persons riding an Activa scooter were forcing girls into prostitution at a public place on the road leading towards Rani Durgavati Chowk, near Bharat Petrol Pump, under Panchpaoli Police Station limits.

Acting on the information, the police team rushed to the spot and laid a trap in the presence of panch witnesses. Two suspects matching the description were spotted and detained.

During interrogation, the accused were identified as Taushif Niyaz Qureshi (26) and Zoya Taushif Qureshi alias Makhni Ram Mishra, both residents of Panchsheel Nagar, Pachpaoli, Nagpur.

Further questioning revealed the involvement of a third accused, Komal Nitin Pawar, a resident of Plot No. 24, Tarkeshwar Nagar, Kamptee Road, Uppalwadi, Nagpur.

Police said the accused were allegedly operating in collusion and, for monetary gain, were providing locations and arranging customers for prostitution, forcing the victims into commercial sexual exploitation.

During the raid, police successfully rescued two victimised girls from the accused. From their possession, the police seized:

• An Activa scooter (MH-49-BQ-0782)

• Six mobile phones of different companies

• Cash amounting to Rs 4,500

• Other related materials

The total value of the seized property has been estimated at Rs 1.04 lakh.

Based on the evidence, a case has been registered at Panchpaoli Police Station under Section 143(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with Sections 4 and 5 of the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, 1956.

The accused, along with the seized property, have been handed over to Panchpaoli Police for further legal action. Police said searches are underway to trace the absconding accused, while further investigation is in progress.
