Fumed over continuous apathy of district administration in extending benefits of Sanjay Gandhi Niradhar Yojana to them, the members of Vidarbha Viklang Samiti stormed the concerned office at district collectorate here on Saturday and vandalized the property. The scheme entails cash assistance to the disabled people. Sources said the beneficiaries were irked with the repeated ignorance of the concerned officials. Fed up of running from pillar to post to get their share of benefit, the helpless members finally took the law into their hands.
The members, comprising the differently abled people lamented that since December 2013, they had not received a single penny of provision under this scheme which covers handicapped, age old and widow members. “When we were rendered with no option, we finally took this step,” president of Vidarbha Viklang Samiti Giridhar Bhajbuje.told Nagpur Today.
Another beneficiary alleged rampant irregularities in the department, saying that the officials and middlemen are eating out the benefits of the disabled people, and the innocent beneficiaries are at the suffering end.
When Nagpur Today quizzed Naib Tehsildar Asha Mate over the matter, she admitted to the glitch citing the technical reasons behind non-payment to the beneficiaries. However she assured speedy relief to them and said the department is making all efforts to make if fast.
