NU finance officer moves HC against Chancellor’s order

Nagpur: The finance and accounts officer, RTM Nagpur University, Purnachandra Meshram, who has already served as finance and accounts officer for one term of full 5 years, has approached the High Court here, to challenge the Chancellor”s order of October 13, 2014, answering Reference under section 108 of the Maharashtra Universities Act, 1994, having effect of asking the petitioner to go through the drill of selection process once again, for securing appointment for the second term, in response to the advertisement of December 6, 2014.

Justice Bhushan Gavai and Justice Mridula Bhatkar have issued notice to the respondents including the Chancellor returnable in 3 weeks.

The petitioner is seeking direction from the court for continuing his appointment till May 29, 2019. He has stated that it was obligatory for the university’s registrar and the vice chancellor to implement the Management Council”s Resolution of May 29, 2009. He has questioned the action of the registrar and the VC to initiate the selection process for selecting the petitioner for the post for second term.

It has been alleged that the then acting vice chancellor”s letter to the Chancellor sent on August 28, 2014 establishes totally mala fide view and contains baseless and imaginary allegations against govt officials.

When the Management Council is appointing authority in his case and had passed resolution of July 7, 2014, selecting him, vice chancellor was not competent to make Reference to the Chancellor in this regard. Advocate B G Kulkarni appeared for the petitioner. The petitioner is seeking direction from the court for continuing his appointment till May 29, 2019.
